Many of the territory's natural assets are safeguarded by The BVI National Parks Trust which operates one of the region's most comprehensive national parks systems.

The BVI National Parks Trust was established in 1961 and the territory's first national parks, at Sage Mountain on Tortola, was created three years later, one of the first national parks in the Caribbean. In all, there are 20 national park, which encompass a stunning array of terrestrial and marine areas including historic sites, tropical forests, bird sanctuaries, a geological wonder and one of the world's most famous shipwrecks - each a jewel in its own right.

Some of the sites are only accessible by boat, others are easily reached by car or taxi. But wherever it is, visiting one or more of The BVI's many national parks can be the highlight of a trip to The British Virgin Islands. See National Parks of Tortola, National Parks of Virgin Gorda and National Marine Park at Salt Island are a some of a few.
